Why You Might Need Pre-Implant Treatment
One of the main disadvantages of missing teeth is that it can affect the jawbone. If you’ve had gaps for a while, the bone beneath can start to shrink, meaning there may not be enough bone to securely hold an implant. This issue is compounded if your missing teeth are located by the upper back jaw, as this area is very close to your sinus. Suffice it to say, these conditions are very common and highly treatable.
Enquire about Dr Mann’s pre-implant treatment if:
- You’ve been told you don’t have enough bone for implant treatment
- You’ve had missing teeth for quite some time
- You’re looking to replace teeth in the upper back jaw near your sinus
- You’ve had a failed implant placed previously
Bone Grafting Treatment
If your bone volume is too low for implant surgery, Dr Mann can place a graft to build up the area and encourage your body to regenerate the bone. The depth this creates in your jawbone is needed to securely support one or multiple dental implants to complete your treatment. Bone grafting surgery:
- Is performed under sedation for your comfort
- Can be completed ahead of your implant surgery
- Heals typically within 3-6 months

Sinus Lift Surgery
When placing implants in the upper back jaw, there may not be enough bone between your mouth and the sinus cavity above. In such cases, a sinus lift is recommended to gently raise the sinus membrane and place the bone grafting material beneath it, allowing for successful implant placement later on. Dr Mann offers:
- Internal Sinus Lifts – a minimally invasive option often completed alongside implant placement.
- External Sinus Lifts – deigned for more complex cases and preformed in advance of implant surgery to create more height for ideal placement.
Think you may need a sinus lift? Book a consultation with Dr Mann who will determine which method if appropriate for you based on your oral health and treatment goals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is bone grafting or sinus lifts painful?
No. Dr Mann will ensure your comfort throughout treatment. In fact, most patients say it feels similar to a gentle tooth extraction!
Can I have a bone graft and implant at the same time?
In some cases, yes, this is possible, especially if only a small graft is needed. But for more complex bone loss, its much safer to complete the grafting first before placing the implant.
